Mary Schwaiger, who was one of the first women to join our club, becomes the 2009-10 District Governor. Only two other members of our club have served as District Governor, Judge Frank Carter Sr., (1932-22) and Richard Bonson (1964-65).
On May 19, 1932 the Northern Lakes News ran the story of local judge, Frank W. Carter, being elected governor of all rotary clubs in the tenth district which included most of Wisconsin and upper Michigan:
"Judge Carter, who is a resident of Eagle River, and who organized the Phelps and Three Lakes clubs, was selecte at the closing session of the conference (district conference held in Eau Claire, WI). Out of the forty-nine delegates present Jude Carter received the vots of twenty-seven, and Walter B. Chillson received the vots of twenty-two...
Northern Wisconsin Rotarians and Rotarians from the Michigan peninsula were staunch supporters of Mr. Carter and the fact that most of these clubs are the youngest in the district testifies to their activity and to the influence they exert in directing the affairs of Rotary in the state."
