Rotary President Gary Huang reminds us; "December is Family Month. Looking back on my years as a Rotarian, I have seen how important family is in Rotary--and how important Rotary can be to our families, "Rotary gives us something good that we can all do together. I can think of no better lessons to teach our families than the lessons of Rotary service."
On not being Scrooge, writer Frank Bures says: "To build compassion, get out of your comfort zone." Bures quotes writer George Saunders who regrets most: failures of kindness.
"The people who are the most satisfied with their lives are the ones who are the most embedded in their communities and who have engaged in acts of kindness and philanthropy." Read the full article in the December issue.
Rotary is committed to clean water projects around the world. Actor Matt Damon and activist Gary White are co-founders of Water.org. They say: "Almost 800 million people--more than the number living in the United States, Canada and Western Europe combined--don't have safe drinking water."
To make the point, Damon recently collected water from one of his toilets to illustrate that water in our toilets in the West is actually cleaner than the water that most people in the developing world have access to.
